- Crowns and Bridges Treatment

Crowns and bridges are dental treatments used to restore the function and appearance of teeth that are damaged or missing. Here’s an overview of these treatments:
Dental Crowns:
A crown is a cap that covers a damaged tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance. Crowns can be made from various materials, including porcelain, ceramic, metal alloys, or a combination of these materials.
Dental Bridges:
A bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring artificial teeth (pontics) between two crowns that are placed on the adjacent natural teeth or dental implants.
Types of Dental Bridges:
- Traditional Fixed Bridges: The most common type, consisting of crowns on either side of the gap with pontics in between.
- Cantilever Bridges: Used when there’s only one natural tooth next to the gap.
- Maryland Bridges: Resin-bonded bridges that use metal wings bonded to the back of the adjacent teeth.
- Implant-Supported Bridges: Rests on dental implants instead of natural teeth.
Procedure for Crowns and Bridges:
- Preparation: The dentist prepares the tooth by removing decay and shaping it to fit the crown or bridge.
- Impressions: Impressions of the prepared tooth and surrounding teeth are taken to create a model for the crown or bridge.
- Temporary Restoration: A temporary crown or bridge is placed while the permanent one is being made.
- Fitting: Once ready, the permanent crown or bridge is fitted, adjusted if necessary, and cemented in place.
Benefits:
- Restores chewing function and prevents shifting of other teeth.
- Improves appearance by filling gaps and enhancing smile aesthetics.
- Protects weakened teeth from further damage.
Aftercare:
- Maintain good oral hygiene with regular brushing and flossing.
- Visit your dentist regularly for check-ups and cleanings.
It’s important to consult with your dentist to determine the best treatment option for your specific needs.
